Located on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, N.C., is a city of both natural beauty and architectural flair. These elements come together brilliantly in the new Asheville City Centre office building, with its tall windows for letting in natural daylighting and its unique aesthetic design that fits perfectly with the stylish community. The landmark building features AGC Energy Select™ 28 glass.

The 68,000 square foot City Centre is located on a prime piece of downtown real estate just off I-240, at the intersection of College and South Charlotte streets — a site co-developer Rusty Pulliam calls the gateway corner to the city. The four-story building adjoins a new six-story Hilton Garden Inn. The City Centre and hotel share a courtyard and a three-level parking deck.

Building Aspiration

The project called for a welcoming appearance that felt open from the sidewalk, inviting customers and clients to step inside. While glass is an obvious choice for achieving this effect, energy code requirements limited the amount of glass that could be used in the facade.

Achieving Success

The building’s narrow, elongated glass panels allow more light to penetrate deeper into the interior without sacrificing indoor temperature control. AGC Energy Select 28 coating on the glazing is an ideal solution for southern regions of the United States, where reducing energy costs by lessening demands on HVAC systems is a major concern. This glass provides exceptional solar blocking performance, while maintaining 62 percent visible light transmittance (VLT), maximizing building performance and occupant comfort.
