Float Glass
Float glass is a sheet of glass made by floating molten glass on a bed of molten metal, typically tin, although lead and various low melting point alloys were used in the past. This method gives the sheet uniform thickness and very flat surfaces. Float glass is the base glass used in all subsequent glass processing options. Reducing the iron content allows for more clarity in the glass.
Monolithic
Monolithic float glass consists of a single sheet of glass formed using the float glass manufacturing process. Monolithic glass is often modified for increased strength, improved insulating capability, and safety glazing requirements.
Low-iron
Low-iron glass is a virtually colorless float glass designed for high-end applications. The lower iron content of this float glass product provides high visible light transmittance and greater clarity. All low-iron glass has a subtle edge color, but is significantly lighter that traditional float glass.
Tinted
Tinted glass is manufactured using the same process as clear float glass, but with metal oxides added to create color in the glass. Body tinted float glass is heat absorbing, and provides a range of aesthetics to complement commercial or interior designs.
